Need opinions on diabetic shoes

Dear all, it's Hans here!

I need a little assistance from you guys on an urgent matter.

I work in sales and marketing department of a reputed firm. Unfortunately, I've been diagnosed diabetes since last month and it's hindering my work. I've to travel long distances because of work. At first, I didn't notice that the problem was my ordinary work shoes! But with the increased discomfort in my feet, I realized that they could no longer be used.

Now, I'm on the lookout for shoes that don't hinder my progress anymore and provide comfort at the same time. One of my colleagues referred to these shoes for diabetes on the site he usually uses but I have no clue whether these would work out for me. Can you guys give your feedback in this regard or suggest better options?

Looking for honest opinions. Thanks!

Thank you for posting your question Hans.  I looked at the link and read through the descriptions of the shoes.  It is difficult to make a specific recommendation, trial and error is needed when it comes to one's comfort. I can certainly understand trying to find a shoe that will help your situation and continue your progress in the Gokhale Method.

Generally speaking, we want a shoe that can easily accommodate the kidney shaping of the foot and even encourage it, if the sole is kidney bean shaped.  In terms of the amount of cushioning in a shoe, a bit more judgement - it is important for us to attempt good form in any shoe and not allow the cushioning to fool us into keeping poor form and forgetting the Gokhale Method principles of optimal foot structure.

Also impacting the choice is the condition of your foot and structural issues that one may or may not have such as bunions, ankle stability, the various arches in one’s foot and the level of arch support that is needed.  Most important to keep in mind that we want to use our foot muscles actively when walking in daily life or in fitness.  So the shoe shouldn't hinder the grabbing motion that we teach.

I do not know your familarity or how many lessons you have taken of the Gokhale Method, but there are various important factors in the foot condition and the way we walk -  both can make walking less impactful and more healthy and challenging for our muscles. This knowledge combined with trial & error of the shoe would be a helfpul way to approach this decision.
