Getting kids involved: My daughters posture is bad, please help me help her!

My daughter is 7 years old, and since reading Esters book a few months ago, I have noticed that her posture is bad. Her shoulders are moved forward, so that the top of her back is rounded.

I have taught her how to roll her shoulders back one by one like I've learned in the book, but she forgets. (So do I, we are new to this and I understand that it takes time to change habits!) However, I would love to be able to help her! Please give me your top tips!

It's wonderful that you would like to help yourself and your daughter!  Sitting well can be a great first step toward better posture.  A properly anteverted pelvis is key in helping the shoulders stay back and the upper back upright rather than slouched shoulders.  You may want to help your daughter by:

1. Asking her to scoot all the way to the back of a chair that is small enough for her

2.  When chairs are too big-she can sit on the edge (stacksitting)

3. When sitting on the floor, if she is have trouble maintaining an upright position, put a little pillow or wedge for the edge of her seat.

4. Using imagery can be helpful.  We teach kids to have a "ducky" butt versus a "tucky" rear end.  Perhaps you could turn this into a game or use cartoon ducks to make it fun.

I hope this helps!
